Cross Now is the second Rattle Jazz release from Auckland-based trio, Samsom Nacey Haines. The tracks on their previous album, Oxide (RATJ1004), were written individually, but for this album the material was jointly composed. The result is a strikingly coherent and focused work, with each piece contributing equally to the strongest offering yet from one of New Zealand's most highly regarded jazz ensembles.

Beautifully recorded by Neil Baldock at Roundhead Studios, the album opens with the playful 7/4 riff-based Broken Tones, a track that perfectly introduces the character and style of the album. Every track is skilfully composed and performed, showing great musical judgement and intelligence. The ensemble listens very intently to each other, resulting in a wonderfully expressive album, full of vital performances and harmonious, joyful music.
